Ald. Susan Sadlowski-Garza is running for a second term representing the 10th Ward, which includes all or parts of South Chicago, East Side, Hegewisch and South Chicago. A member of the Chicago Teachers Union and a member of the Progressive Caucus, Sadlowski-Garza faces Bobby Loncar, a lawyer in private practice. In May, the latest effort to redevelop the 440-acre former U.S. Steel South Works plant because of pollution — one of the biggest issues facing the once heavily industrial ward.
To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.
