Race for 13th Ward Alderman

Incumbent reelected

The 13th Ward on the city’s Southwest Side includes all or parts of West Lawn, Ashburn and Garfield Ridge. Ald. Marty Quinn, a close ally of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan whose district overlaps with much of the ward, is running for a third term. He faces 18-year-old David Krupa, who plans to attend DePaul University, and then law school. Quinn tried — and failed — to oust Krupa from the ballot. Quinn has focused on banning home-sharing services in the ward and pushing city officials to address the noxious smell caused by window insulation installed by the city in homes near Midway Airport. Krupa lists crime reduction, the pension crisis and property taxes among his top issues.

To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.

Percentages are based on the available ballots tallied by the Chicago Board of Elections. Percentages listed do not indicate a winner until all ballots are counted.
