The 1st Ward includes all or parts of Logan Square, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, Noble Square, Humboldt Park and West Town. Ald. “Proco” Joe Moreno, who was first appointed to the seat in 2010, narrowly avoided a run-off against three challengers in 2015. Key issues in the race include transportation, development and housing affordability.
Moreno faces Daniel La Spata, an organizer with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association with a master’s degree in urban planning and public policy, who has been pressing Moreno on campaign donations from developers and affordable housing in the ward.
To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.
Percentages are based on the available ballots tallied by the Chicago Board of Elections. Percentages listed do not indicate a winner until all ballots are counted.
