Race for 24th Ward Alderman

Incumbent reelected

Incumbent Ald. Michael Scott Jr. — son of former Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott Sr., a key Daley ally — was first elected alderman in 2015 after he handedly beat out 10 candidates. The acclaimed 2018 podcast The City, which tells the true story of the FBI’s Silver Shovel investigation into a notorious ‘90s dumping operation, was set in this West Sideward. The 24th Ward includes all or parts of North Lawndale, West Garfield Park and South Austin.

Scott Jr. faces three challengers: salon owner Creative Scott; Toriano A. Sanzone, who owns a dog-training business; and Traci “Treasure Johnson, who is part owner of a family-owned pest control business.

To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.

Percentages are based on the available ballots tallied by the Chicago Board of Elections. Percentages listed do not indicate a winner until all ballots are counted.
