Despite objections to her petitions, candidate Cynthia Bednarz will be on the 27th Ward ballot next month — a move that means powerful Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. will face a contested race as he seeks his seventh term. A key ally to former Mayor Richard M. Daley and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Burnett voted with Rahm 100 percent of the time. The diverse — and booming — 27th Ward includes parts of the West Loop, Greektown, Garfield Park, the Near North Side, Old Town, West Humboldt Park, West Town, the Medical District and Goose Island neighborhoods.
To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.
Percentages are based on the available ballots tallied by the Chicago Board of Elections. Percentages listed do not indicate a winner until all ballots are counted.
