Race for 30th Ward Alderman

Race goes to runoff

The 30th Ward encompasses parts of Irving Park, Hermosa, Portage Park, and Belmont Cragin and has been led by Ald. Ariel Reboyras since 2003. Reboyras, a close ally of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, has touted his record and recently secured a new elementary school in Belmont Cragin. But his opponents say the ward needs someone who won’t be a rubber stamp for whoever is elected mayor. Though Emanuel vowed to fight for Reboyras, his critics say that won’t do much in a majority-Hispanic ward — especially against Jessica Gutierrez, daughter of political powerhouse and former Congressman Luis Gutierrez.

To win, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a run off on April 2.

Percentages are based on the available ballots tallied by the Chicago Board of Elections. Percentages listed do not indicate a winner until all ballots are counted.
