Incumbent Ald. Howard Brookins, first elected alderman in 2003, narrowly held onto his seat in 2015 — he garnered about 200 votes over his challenger. His chief of staff pleaded guilty to bribing an undercover informant the prior year. The 21st Ward includes parts of Auburn Gresham and Washington Heights, where voters share economic development, education and public safety concerns.
Brookins faces Marvin McNeil, a former city zoning code inspector who ran against Brookins in 2015.
