The 33rd Ward is represented by Ald. Deb Mell and covers Ravenswood Manor, Avondale, Albany Park and Irving Park. The diverse ward has a low crime rate and some thriving business strips, but could use more affordable housing, candidates say. Mell faces Rossana Rodríguez-Sánchez, and both tout similar beliefs: more affordable housing, more funding for public schools and protecting immigrant communities and LGBTQ residents, but Rodríguez-Sánchez has organizational support from the Chicago chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and other progressive groups..
