Lincoln Square, Peterson Park, Andersonville, West Rogers Park and Ravenswood are all in the 40th ward, where longtime Ald. Pat O’Connor has reigned since 1983. After months of refusing to say whether he was up for another term or not, O’Connor got into the race — where he now faces a younger and more progressive opponent. O’Connor’s opponent Andre Vasquez accuses the alderman of failing to bring more affordable housing to the ward, where longtime residents say they’re being priced out. O’Connor has defended his record, and said schools in the ward have improved under his leadership and that the area is a safe and stable place for families.
